FRANKFORT, KY –  Attorney General Jack Conway and the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy have jointly released a public service announcement (PSA) to increase awareness of heroin abuse among young people and to warn their parents of the signs.

The 30-second PSA http://youtu.be/leznM7P2O0g  depicts a young woman in a morgue who describes how easy it has been to hide her heroin habit from her parents—that is until she becomes an overdose victim.

FRANKFORT, KY - Kentucky State Police (KSP) is renewing their effort to solve unsolved cases by asking the public for assistance with leads.  In 2010, KSP distributed over 8,000 decks of playing cards to prisons across Kentucky depicting unsolved case information. 
 
The deck of cards highlighted 52 unsolved Kentucky homicide or missing person cases.  Since that time, three of those cases have been solved.

16 arrests made in western Kentucky on various criminal and immigration charges

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - As part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) ongoing commitment to prioritizing the removal of criminal aliens and egregious immigration law violators, 16 convicted criminal aliens, immigration fugitives and immigration violators were arrested during a three-day operation in western Kentucky.

This operation concluded November 8th and was conducted by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations teams in Louisville.

Of the 16 arrested, 11 had prior convictions for crimes such as: aggravated assault, drunken driving, theft, public intoxication, and traffic offenses. Three of the 16 were immigration fugitives who had been previously ordered to leave the country but failed to depart; two of the fugitives also had criminal convictions. Three of those arrested had been previously removed from the country and illegally re-entered the United States, which is a felony.

FRANKFORT, KY - Kentucky State Police this month kicked off a six-month fall, holiday, and New Year enforcement campaign called Operation R.A.I.D. "Remove Aggressive, Impaired and Distracted drivers from Kentucky Roadways".  The effort was developed by KSP Commanders across the state to target driving behaviors that cause most crashes in Kentucky.  Operation R.A.I.D. begins Nov. 1, 2012 and runs through April 30, 2013.

Reward offered for info leading to arrest and conviction of arsonist(s) in Breckinridge County

Hardinsburg, Ky. – The Kentucky State Arson Task Force is asking for the public’s help regarding an Arson that occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2009.

The fire destroyed the old Blancett Ford Dealership building at 3rd and Main Street in Hardinsburg, Kentucky in Breckinridge County. The Task Force is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the crime.

Anyone with information may call 1-800-27ARSON. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.

KY First Lady gives support during Domestic Violence Awareness Month

 

FRANKFORT, KY - On Wednesday, October 3rd First Lady Jane Beshear joined the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association (KDVA) and legislators to help promote October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Kentucky.   

“Nearly one-third of all American women report being abused at some point in their lives.  Abuse affects more than just individuals - families and communities suffer, too,” said Mrs. Beshear. “Domestic Violence Awareness Month is the opportunity for all Kentuckians to learn how to recognize the signs of domestic abuse and to show support for victims as they work to regain control of their lives.”

For the past four years, Mrs. Beshear has helped KDVA and anti-domestic violence advocates sponsor Shop & Share Day, a one-day drive to gather goods and necessities for domestic violence shelters across Kentucky.

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky State Police are turning to the public's love of texting to help solve crimes.

You can text confidential tips from your cell phone. Just write “KSP TIP” in the message along with your tip and send it to 67283.

The messages are sent to a separate, third-party server where identifying information is stripped out and they are assigned an encrypted alias before being sent to police.
